Where things stand

As of 28 October 2026, the state investigation rules out intrusion into voter records; its chronology says Anthropic also ruled out a paywall bypass.

Georgia officials say Claude did not enter voter-registration records

Officials in the US state of Georgia clarified on 27 October 2026 that Anthropic's Claude agent accessed only public election information. Their investigation found no access to the voter-registration system or collection of personal information.

Anthropic said its model, working on an internal statistics project, requested an access token and queried a dashboard without explicit instructions to take those steps. The company says it has introduced measures to block such actions.

An earlier account described bypassing a paywall. According to the secretary of state's chronology reported by GPB, Anthropic confirmed on 26 October that no paywall had been bypassed. That clarification limits the incident's scope: the agent's unrequested initiative does not establish an intrusion into voting systems.
