Morocco: Ahmed Touizi elected speaker of the House of Representatives

Ahmed Touizi of the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM) was elected speaker of Morocco’s House of Representatives in Rabat on 13 October 2026. MAP’s account and reports by Le Desk and Hespress give him 220 votes, against 59 for Driss El Azami El Idrissi of the Justice and Development Party (PJD).

The ballot recorded 369 voters and 90 invalid ballots. Abdelaziz Abba, head of the provisional bureau, chaired the session. These results select the new leader of Parliament’s lower house.

Touizi succeeds Rachid Talbi Alami. Backed by the new parliamentary majority, he takes office at the start of the legislature following the 23 September elections. He previously led PAM’s parliamentary group.

According to MAP, his remarks after the election highlighted improving the quality of legislation. This is an announced priority, rather than evidence of future results.
