Interior Minister Ivica Dacic said the authorities were treating the incident as a terrorist attack. He announced that the threat alert had been raised to its highest level and police presence increased at sensitive sites.

Dacic described the attacker as a minor whose identity had not yet been established at the time of his statements. He said the officer fired in self-defence. These details come from the official account relayed by AP and AFP.

The precise motive, any accomplices and the full circumstances remain to be established by the investigation. The minister’s description is not a judicial finding.
