Egypt approves rules for factory solar programme
Egypt's government approved the conditions for the Shams El Sinaa factory solar initiative on 28 October 2026, according to accounts of its cabinet meeting.
The programme targets around 1,000 megawatts for some 7,000 factories, subject to their technical and financial readiness. These are targets, with no newly commissioned capacity established.
The rules distinguish installations below 500 kilowatts from those reaching or exceeding that threshold. Smaller projects follow distribution companies' procedures; larger ones face grid-connection and financing requirements. The opening date for applications and detailed lending terms remain to be specified.
