On 30 October 2026, the National Energy Administration presents a roadmap targeting an autonomous industrial chain by 2030 and deployment of three to five heavy-duty turbine models.

China outlines plan to strengthen gas turbine industry by 2030

China's National Energy Administration presented guidelines on 30 October 2026 to strengthen domestic gas turbine design, manufacturing and maintenance by 2030. The plan was developed with three other government bodies.

Agency official Wang Yunbo said the aim was to deploy three to five Chinese-developed heavy-duty turbine models by the end of the five-year plan. This is an industrial target whose implementation remains to be verified.

The guidelines cover critical components, testing, maintenance and adaptation to new fuels. They also envisage artificial intelligence for machine design and monitoring.

The agency links the policy to demand from power networks, oil and gas platforms and data centres. It acknowledges remaining performance and reliability gaps with leading international equipment.
