Opera previews WebAI to run AI on users’ computers

Opera announced an early WebAI preview on 27 October 2026, allowing websites and extensions to use AI models running on users’ computers. Users activate it in Opera One’s settings.

No model downloads before activation, and users can disable the feature. According to Opera, local processing removes the need to send processed content to a cloud AI provider.

The preview supports 64-bit Intel or AMD Windows PCs and Apple silicon Macs. Linux, Intel Macs and Windows on ARM are excluded. Speed depends on hardware. WebAI remains a proposed standard and an early preview, offering text generation, classification and similarity-search capabilities.
