Where things stand

As of 29 October 2026, a nine-country survey finds much lower acceptance of entirely AI-made news.

Only 12% of respondents are comfortable with entirely AI-made news

In a Reuters Institute survey published on 29 October 2026, 12% of respondents across nine countries say they are comfortable with news made entirely by AI. The figure is 67% for entirely human-made news.

Comfort reaches 19% with human oversight of AI, and 45% when a journalist leads with AI assistance. YouGov surveyed about 2,000 people per country from 14 August to 28 September, including in France, the United States, Japan and Argentina.

Across the six countries tracked since 2024, weekly generative AI use rose from 34% to 51% in a year. These findings measure reported behaviour and attitudes in the surveyed countries, rather than the entire world population.
