Hong Kong schedules primary-school AI teaching from 2028/29

Hong Kong’s Education Bureau published a draft framework on 30 October 2026 for a new information and innovation technology subject. Introduction in primary schools is planned from the 2028/29 school year, including introductory AI.

The curriculum covers five areas: information technology; programming and computational thinking; AI; engineering and robotics; and technology and society. It also addresses data protection and responsible use.

Schools are encouraged to prepare and test courses before the rollout. The bureau plans fifteen hours of professional training for teachers and teaching resources. This is an announced timetable; publication does not mean all pupils are already taking these lessons.
