France: pay strike also disrupts cultural visits
France’s 5 November 2026 day of strikes and demonstrations brings unions together over pay and public services. In Paris, the Eiffel Tower is closed to visitors.
The CFDT, CGT, FO, Unsa and FSU unions are leading the national mobilisation. Information collected describes rail disruption and action in education; no final turnout figure is retained at this stage.
Cultural access is also affected. The Louvre remains open with some galleries closed, according to museum information reported by Sortiraparis. Versailles warns that full or partial opening cannot be guaranteed; that warning does not establish that the entire site is closed.
Visitors therefore need to check access with each institution. Opening announcements and local restrictions may change during the day.
