As of 1 November 2026, older series lose legal tender status under the BEAC timetable; exchanges remain available.

CEMAC: older coins leave payments but can still be exchanged

Coins from the 1958, 1959, 1971, 1976 and 1985 series lose legal tender status across CEMAC’s six countries on 1 November 2026 under the BEAC timetable reported by regional media. Withdrawal from payments does not immediately end exchanges.

The measure covers Cameroon, the Central African Republic, Congo, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea and Chad. The 2006 and 2024 series remain valid for payments, CRTV reports, citing the central bank’s notice.

Bénin Web TV says banks, microfinance institutions and BEAC will handle exchanges until 31 July 2027. Individual counter opening hours require local checks; no first-day exchange total has been established here.
