Where things stand

From 1 November 2026, the first phase covers Aktau and four road crossings. Authorisation remains recommended until 30 June 2027; its absence alone is not grounds for refusing entry during that period.

Kazakhstan begins QazETA rollout without an immediate requirement

Kazakhstan begins the first phase of its QazETA electronic entry authorisation rollout on 1 November 2026 at Aktau airport and four road crossings. Authorities say it remains recommended until 30 June 2027: lacking it alone is not grounds for refusing entry during the transition.

The crossings are Urlyutobe, Aukhatty, Atameken and Nurly Zhol. Travellers covered by the scheme can apply free of charge in the app at least 72 hours before arrival. Authorisation is valid for 180 days, but this does not extend the permitted length of stay.

The schedule provides for expansion to Astana and Almaty airports in January 2027 and other crossings in March. It becomes mandatory on 1 July 2027 for the relevant categories, subject to exemptions. This is the regulatory timetable; the sources consulted provide no first-day inspection results.
