Valdecilla announces 3D microscope and reports shorter waiting list after AI triage

Cantabria’s health service announced on 1 November 2026 that Valdecilla’s ophthalmology unit is using an Artevo 850 microscope. It also attributes a 2,000-patient reduction in its consultation waiting list to temporary use of the Mikajaki AI triage tool.

The microscope combines three-dimensional surgical images with real-time optical coherence tomography. The statement values it at more than €300,000, separately from eleven other devices acquired this year.

The unit handles over 50,000 consultations annually. The reported waiting-list reduction alone does not establish average waiting times or clinical outcomes. The statement provides no independent evaluation isolating the effect of algorithmic triage.
