Ministry says 2026 exempt cattle-import quota exhausted

Morocco’s Agriculture Ministry announced on 23 October 2026 that the quota of 300,000 cattle for slaughter benefiting from exemptions had been reached, according to H24 and La Vie éco. Professionals had been notified on 15 October.

The ministry says 37 companies participated and more than 90% of the animals came from Brazil.

This concerns the quota benefiting from the announced tax regime, not a general import ban. The ministry claims a stabilising effect on prices; the sources consulted provide no independent assessment of that effect for households.
