Beijing and Manila keep dialogue open despite Wang Yi criticism
Chinese and Philippine foreign ministers Wang Yi and Theresa Lazaro spoke by telephone on 3 November 2026. Beijing criticised attacks by Philippine politicians, while Lazaro described a frank and constructive exchange.
According to China’s foreign ministry, Wang asked Manila to restrain politicians he accused of crossing Beijing’s red lines and to exercise caution on maritime issues. These accusations represent China’s position.
Lazaro said both sides emphasised continued diplomatic dialogue and managing differences with mutual respect, AFP reported. The Chinese readout also described agreement in principle on maintaining exchanges. No maritime settlement or new binding agreement is established.
