New York Times and three newspapers sue Brave over AI use of their articles

The New York Times filed a federal complaint in New York against Brave Software on 2 November 2026. The New York Daily News, Chicago Tribune and Orlando Sentinel brought a separate action on similar grounds.

The publishers accuse Brave of copying articles into its search index, reproducing them in AI answers and selling access to other companies. The Times also alleges that the browser enables circumvention of its paywall restrictions. These are the plaintiffs' allegations, not violations established by a judgement.

Their requests include damages and an injunction. The AI companies identified as customers of Brave's interface are not defendants in these two actions, PPC Land notes after reviewing the complaints.

The consulted sources contain no court response from Brave to these new allegations.
