Cyprus: Cronos contracts launch gas project’s execution phase

Eni signed the main contracts for the Cronos gas project offshore Cyprus on 26 October. The ceremony in Nicosia marked the start of the execution phase, rather than an immediate start to production.

The contracts cover engineering, construction, subsea equipment and drilling services, among other work. Eni operates Block 6 with a 50% interest alongside TotalEnergies.

The company expects start-up in the first half of 2028 and targets a production plateau of about 500 million standard cubic feet of gas per day. These figures describe industrial objectives, not output already achieved.

Gas is to be transported to Egypt, processed through existing facilities and liquefied at Damietta for export, primarily to Europe. The development therefore relies on regional energy cooperation and the use of infrastructure already available.
