OpenAI plans Pierre acquisition to expand code management in Codex

OpenAI announced an agreement on 4 November 2026 to acquire Pierre Computer Company, maker of Code Storage and open-source developer tools. The price is undisclosed and the deal remains subject to regulatory approval.

Pierre already supplies Trees and Diffs, libraries used in Codex to browse files and review changes. OpenAI plans to integrate Code Storage functions, a Git-based code storage and history service.

The announcement says Pierre’s open-source projects will remain open source. Customers will be able to keep using Code Storage after closing while integration proceeds. The two companies remain separate until completion: the agreement does not mean the acquisition has already closed.
