The novel follows a French teacher starting work at a suburban secondary school. The jury thus honours a narrative centred on the experience of teaching.

Laura Kasischke wins the foreign novel prize for Baignade surveillée, translated from English by Céline Leroy and published by Gallimard. Jennifer Tamas receives the essay prize for Barbe Bleue contre-enquête, published by Seuil.
