CANEX: $118 million in agreements reported for Nigeria’s creative businesses

BusinessDay reported on 6 November 2026 that financing agreements totalling $118 million for Nigeria’s creative industries had been concluded at CANEX WKND in Lagos. This envelope is separate from Afreximbank’s multi-year $2 billion commitment to Africa’s creative sector.

The newspaper lists a $75 million facility involving Afreximbank and the Development Bank of Nigeria, a $30 million financing arrangement and a $13 million grant involving bodies including NEXIM and SMEDAN. The amounts are presented as agreements, rather than money already paid to creators.

Officials quoted emphasise production, distribution and intellectual property, aiming to help businesses retain more of their work’s commercial value. The separately presented iDICE programme should not be added as a new CANEX disbursement.

The available documents provide neither a disbursement timetable nor detailed eligibility conditions. Actual access for studios, producers and small businesses therefore remains to be documented.
