Refurbished and deployed in the Bazaruto Archipelago, the instruments transmit acoustic measurements by satellite for marine observation. The team uses them as a proof of feasibility for repurposing industrial equipment.

The signals describe relative acoustic biomass. They are neither validated fish counts nor species identifications, the researchers explain. The project remains a pilot requiring further calibration and validation of its performance.
