EU challenges TikTok’s repetitive recommendations; company disputes findings

The European Commission issued preliminary findings on 6 November 2026 alleging that TikTok recommendations breach the Digital Services Act. TikTok rejects the accusations.

The regulator says the platform has not adequately assessed and reduced risks from repeated exposure to similar videos, particularly about body image, sadness or isolation. It considers controls for changing the For You feed insufficient.

Brussels wants greater weight for users’ explicit preferences and more accessible controls. TikTok says the assessment misrepresents its platform’s operation and protection efforts.

The company can respond before a final decision. A potential fine could reach 6% of worldwide annual turnover; that ceiling is not a penalty already imposed.
