A professor at Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah University in Fez, he is recognised for research against antimicrobial resistance. UNESCO had announced his selection alongside Nancy Yuk-yu Ip and Carlos Martín Montañés; the three laureates share USD 300,000.

The organisation highlights his work combining an antibiotic with an essential-oil component and his animal-health research. The ceremony recognises that body of work; it does not itself establish new clinical-trial results.
