The project is to use ocean-bottom nodes, or OBN, to collect detailed geological data and guide gas exploration in Egyptian waters.

The announced first phase covers around 300 square kilometres in the Denis and Ras el-Bar areas, with completion targeted for the end of 2026, according to the Egyptian Gazette. The inspection is a preparatory step: it establishes neither an early start to surveying nor a new gas discovery. Findings will depend on data acquisition and interpretation.
