Lonza signs deal to acquire five US sites from Merck

Switzerland’s Lonza and Germany’s Merck KGaA announced a definitive agreement on 3 November 2026 to transfer five US pharmaceutical contract development and manufacturing sites. Closing is expected around mid-2027, subject to conditions.

The transaction would increase Lonza’s US manufacturing network from four to nine sites and bring about 1,100 employees into the group. The activities include bioconjugates, viral vectors and drug-delivery technologies.

The scope includes facilities in California, Wisconsin, Missouri and Indiana. Until closing, the business remains within Merck. The announcement establishes a sale agreement, with no completed transfer of control.
