China: IDC estimates smartphone shipments fell 15.4% in the third quarter

China’s smartphone shipments are estimated to have fallen 15.4% annually in the third quarter of 2026 to around 57.9 million devices, according to preliminary IDC data released on 13 October. These are shipment estimates, rather than a count of consumer purchases.

Huawei accounts for 21.1% of shipments and grew 17.3% annually, according to IDC’s table. Apple ranks second with a 17.8% share despite a 4.3% decline in its shipments. OPPO, vivo and Xiaomi shipments fell 17.6%, 24.9% and 20.4%, respectively.

IDC attributes the downturn to rising memory and component costs passed on through prices, alongside longer device replacement cycles. That explanation is the research firm’s analysis. Its figures are rounded, preliminary and subject to revision.
