Fuel: Lekjaa rejects price cap in budget debate

Fouzi Lekjaa rejected fuel price caps and a return to generalised subsidies during the 2027 budget debate in the House of Representatives on 3 November 2026, according to SNRT News and Le360.

The minister estimates the cost of restoring compensation at MAD 50–70 billion. This is his assessment, not an independent costing. He favours storage capacity and competition to improve the sector’s functioning.

Reports also describe parliamentary proposals for flexible taxation and limits on margins. At this stage, the debate does not establish an announced reduction in pump prices or a new rule adopted.
