Paris and London close sharply higher after US elections

Published

The CAC 40 gained 1.96% to 8,177.89 and London's FTSE 100 rose 1.79% at the close on 4 November 2026. The results extend the rebound seen earlier in the European session.

Reuters and Anadolu reports agree on the Paris and London changes. These are closing figures, distinct from the intraday snapshot published at 13:06 GMT.

Reuters links the rise to investors' interpretation of the US elections and falling oil prices. That explanation remains market interpretation. The consulted data differ for some other European indices, so their exact levels are not used here.
