Indonesian parties weigh inquiry into Gibran’s qualifications

Published

Several Indonesian parties were considering parliamentary action over Vice-President Gibran Rakabuming Raka’s educational qualifications on 5 November 2026. The discussions do not yet amount to an opened inquiry or impeachment proceedings.

Officials from parties in the governing coalition and the opposition said they were examining constitutional options, according to Reuters. The renewed pressure comes amid tensions between President Prabowo Subianto and his predecessor Joko Widodo, Gibran’s father.

In separate Indonesian-language reporting, Katadata quotes Golkar secretary-general Sarmuji as saying the issue would be discussed after the parliamentary recess. He does not confirm which mechanism would be chosen.

The parties are discussing how to follow up court decisions on the vice-president’s education documents. The political outcome remains open; his removal from office is not an established fact.
