US annual inflation rises to 3.7% in September

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported on October 14, 2026 that consumer prices rose 3.7% over the year to September, up from 3.4% in August. The seasonally adjusted monthly increase reached 0.6%, following 0.4%.

According to the bureau, gasoline rose 9.1% over the month and accounted for more than half of the overall increase. Energy climbed 5.2%, while food prices were unchanged.

Excluding food and energy, the index rose 0.3% over the month and 2.6% over the year, compared with 2.4% in August. These figures describe an acceleration extending beyond the energy component alone.

Hürriyet Daily News and L’Agefi report the official data. Their reports are not independent measurements of prices: the figures remain attributed to the BLS.
