European stock markets close higher ahead of central bank decisions

Major European stock markets closed higher on 26 October. Falling oil prices accompanied the rebound at the start of a week of monetary policy decisions.

Reports from MT Newswires and DPA agree that the Stoxx Europe 600 and the German, French, British and Swiss benchmarks rose.

Investors are awaiting announcements from the US Federal Reserve, the European Central Bank and the Bank of Japan. Those decisions had not been delivered within the period covered.

The session offers some relief after a difficult week for European equities. Market reports attributed part of the improved mood to lower oil prices easing inflation concerns; this is market interpretation rather than a measured causal relationship.
