Egypt authorises support for Saudi defence without announcing a deployment

Egypt’s parliament authorised President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi on 26 October 2026 to take necessary measures to support Saudi Arabia’s defence, following coordination between the two countries.

The parliamentary statement says the mandate passed with a two-thirds majority to defend Saudi territory, sovereignty and holy sites against external aggression. The vote concluded three closed sessions held on 18, 19 and 26 October.

Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty described the proposed assistance as defensive. The authorisation comes amid Houthi attacks on the kingdom. It gives the president a political mandate, but the material consulted announces neither an actual troop deployment nor a deployment timetable.
