Senegal sends revised budget back to committee

Senegal’s National Assembly referred the revised budget bill back to its finance committee on 27 October 2026 at the government’s request. The executive seeks further talks after the committee initially rejected the text.

Finance Minister Cheikh Diba requested additional discussions to narrow differences. Assembly President Ousmane Sonko accepted the referral and called the conference of presidents to set the next parliamentary timetable, APS reported.

Reuters notes that the bill matters for efforts to secure a new International Monetary Fund programme. The proposal lowers the forecast for real growth in 2026 to 2.7%, from roughly 5%, and raises the projected deficit to 7.6% of GDP, from 5.4%.

The referral extends parliamentary scrutiny. It amounts neither to adoption of the budget nor to an agreement with the IMF.
