Philippines announces ASEAN envoy's humanitarian mission to Myanmar

The Philippines announced a Myanmar humanitarian mission on 28 October 2026 for its foreign secretary and ASEAN envoy Maria Theresa Lazaro. The announced 28–29 October visit is to include Shan State and Naypyidaw.

The Philippine foreign ministry described humanitarian access as the mission's objective. Officials and experts from ASEAN's humanitarian assistance coordinating centre are to accompany the delegation, according to information gathered by DVB.

Bangkok had announced the visit on 27 October, saying the itinerary was still being prepared. The sources consulted do not establish that a meeting with Aung San Suu Kyi has been authorised.

This remains an announced programme. Any actual expansion of humanitarian access and the outcome of the talks have yet to be documented.
