Anthropic buys Mithril Medicine and outlines drug research

Anthropic announced on 27 October 2026 that it had acquired Mithril Medicine, a biotech working on two rare forms of muscular dystrophy. It also published a research update involving six partners, including Bristol Myers Squibb, Generate Biomedicines and Enveda.

Mithril's founder used Claude to coordinate eleven external laboratories. Anthropic reports promising results in mice and envisages human trials as early as late 2028 if the candidates continue to progress. The acquisition price was not disclosed.

The partnerships cover molecule design, optimization and manufacturing documentation, among other work. These early results are reported by the organizations involved and remain mostly preclinical; they do not yet demonstrate a new treatment's safety or effectiveness in patients.
