SBTN releases version 2.0 of its targets for nature

The Science Based Targets Network has made an updated suite of corporate methods available, with its overview page dating the launch to 13 October 2026. Version 2.0 expands land and freshwater target coverage.

According to the network, the methods extend coverage of pesticide impacts on water quality and strengthen groundwater target-setting. For land, they provide additional regeneration and restoration pathways and a route tailored to mining, extractive and construction sectors.

Companies also receive resources to turn targets into action plans. The network specifies, however, that this planning step is not currently designed for validation. Validation services for version 2 freshwater targets are expected to open in December 2026.

These releases are methodological tools. Making them available does not by itself demonstrate a measured improvement in biodiversity.
