Cargo trucks remain stranded on both sides of the border, according to AP. Tensions involve Ethiopia’s Oromia and Somali regional administrations over a territorial dispute.

Arrivals of displaced people are increasing the needs of host communities in Marsabit, which already face difficulties accessing water and food. Local authorities are requesting humanitarian support.

Available information does not establish the casualty toll for 30 October or responsibility for initiating the renewed clashes.

Moyale: Kenya’s rights commission calls for urgent humanitarian aid

The figure is not a definitive count shared by every organisation. Channel Africa reports about 36,600 people, citing the International Organization for Migration, with nearly 11,000 at a church compound and the rest hosted by communities. Counting dates and coverage must remain distinct.

The commission identifies needs for food, clean water, shelter, sanitation and healthcare. It also calls for support to host families whose resources are under pressure from the arrivals.

Its statement stresses maternal and newborn care following reported births at reception sites. The appeal concerns aid and protection; it does not establish a single definitive displacement total.
