Sweden blocks direct ChatGPT and Claude web access on government computers

Sweden's Government Offices, the Regeringskansliet, have blocked ChatGPT and Claude web interfaces on work computers from 26 October 2026. The measure concerns direct access to the services, rather than a nationwide ban on their models.

In an email to SVT, the administration says employees retain access to the models through its internal Intric platform. Microsoft Copilot also remains available following a review and stronger security measures.

Officials cite risks from processing sensitive information in services without suitable protection agreements. For affected staff, the change therefore concerns authorized channels and conditions of use. The reports consulted do not establish that every previous use caused a data leak.
