London museum presents Paludohadros, a dinosaur identified in its collections
The Natural History Museum presented Paludohadros proudlovii on 27 October 2026, a new dinosaur genus and species identified from fossils from southern England. The remains were discovered in Surrey in 2001.
The announcement concerns reassessment of fossils held by the museum, rather than an excavation carried out this week. The team places the animal among iguanodontians, herbivorous dinosaurs from the Early Cretaceous.
The species name honours Will Proudlove, a former manager of the Ewhurst brickworks where the fossils were found. He died shortly before their excavation.
The work is described in the Journal of Systematic Palaeontology. The museum says examination of its iguanodontian collections will continue. That prospect does not establish that further new species will necessarily be identified.
