World Rugby reports that Mitchelle Chemtai scored the decisive point in extra time at Complexe Iba Mar Diop. Sénégal5 corroborates the final score and Kenya’s gold medal.

Australia therefore finishes second. Madagascar’s bronze is also reported by World Rugby and the Malagasy press.

The final closes the women’s tournament after three days of rugby sevens. This is a Youth Olympic result, distinct from the senior Olympic Games.

After losing his quarter-final to Ukraine’s Khazar Heydarov, who went on to win gold, Diop progressed through the repechage. He defeated France’s Nathan Gbingbehi in the bronze-medal contest, RTS reports.

The official standings place Diop and Argentina’s Thiago Carvallo third: the category awards two bronze medals. This first medal marks an early result for the hosts, not the final tally for Senegal’s delegation.
