After losing his quarter-final to Ukraine’s Khazar Heydarov, who went on to win gold, Diop progressed through the repechage. He defeated France’s Nathan Gbingbehi in the bronze-medal contest, RTS reports.

The official standings place Diop and Argentina’s Thiago Carvallo third: the category awards two bronze medals. This first medal marks an early result for the hosts, not the final tally for Senegal’s delegation.
