Zambia: minister reports 1,622 cholera cases and 30 deaths
Zambia recorded 1,622 reported cholera cases, including 228 laboratory-confirmed infections, and 30 deaths between 28 July and 28 October 2026, Health Minister Roma Chilengi told Parliament on 29 October.
According to the minister, the outbreak affects 20 districts in six provinces; Mumbwa and Chisamba are the two newly affected districts. The latest 24-hour interval brought 74 additional cases and no new deaths.
He said 1,488 patients had recovered and been discharged, while 104 remained in hospital. Sixteen deaths occurred before patients reached a health facility.
The finance ministry released 13 million kwacha for emergency safe-water supply, according to the same statement. These figures are attributed to the authorities; not all reported cases are laboratory-confirmed.
