Five GDPR complaints target Outlier worker surveillance; Scale AI disputes claims
Noyb and its partners filed five GDPR complaints against Scale AI on 27 October 2026 in France, Italy, the Netherlands and Austria. They concern surveillance of freelancers who evaluate and annotate AI responses on Outlier.
The complainants allege trackers transmitting data to third parties, repeated biometric checks and unanswered data-access requests. They seek investigations and possible penalties.
Scale AI told The Register the allegations were unfounded and that its practices were disclosed to contributors and required their consent. It cited identity verification and fraud prevention. The sources reviewed report no decision finding an infringement.
