Dakar launches hub to scale AI in health, agriculture and education

Senegal and the Gates Foundation launched the Senegal AI Scaling Hub in Dakar on 29 October 2026, according to accounts by EnQuête and We Are Tech. It aims to help local AI solutions move from pilots to wider deployment.

The ministry identifies health, agriculture and education as three priorities. The hub is intended to connect researchers, startups, students, businesses and public-sector actors around concrete needs and implementation.

We Are Tech places the initiative within a broader partnership worth more than $10 million that also includes digital identity and a public-project implementation unit. That amount is therefore not the hub’s dedicated budget. The sources consulted give no application criteria, timetable for initial calls or number of services already operating at scale.
