Where things stand

As of 2 November 2026, Bloomberg reports that some tools previously available to bankers and traders are being restricted to engineers.

Goldman Sachs reportedly reserves some AI coding tools for engineers

Goldman Sachs has restricted bankers’ and traders’ access to some advanced AI coding tools, Bloomberg reported on 2 November 2026. Internal guidance changed in October would reserve Claude Code and the affected GitHub tools for engineers.

According to Bloomberg, which reviewed the guidance, the decision follows an assessment of risk and productivity. Some traders had used the software to speed up monitoring of client flows and modeling.

The restriction concerns these coding tools and the employee groups permitted to use them. It does not amount to a general ban on AI at the bank.

The scope of the measure rests on the document reviewed by Bloomberg; reports repeating that account are not independent confirmation.
