Kebemer: Senegal’s ministry reports 56 digestive-illness cases as investigation continues

Senegal’s Health Ministry announced on 5 November 2026 that 56 digestive-illness cases had been notified in Kebemer between 2 and 4 November. Forty-two patients were hospitalised and no deaths are reported in that tally, according to the statement carried by APS and APAnews.

Patients notably have diarrhoea, vomiting and abdominal pain. The ministry suggests a possible foodborne or waterborne illness, which remains a hypothesis; regional and national teams are investigating.

A separate APS account quotes prefect Ousseynou Mbaye reporting 317 cases as of 5 November across several health facilities, with no deaths or severe cases. The figures have different dates and descriptions: the sources consulted do not establish exactly how their scopes reconcile. They must not be added together.
