Egypt: Enterprise reports targeted relief from handset development fee

Published

Egypt’s government is to stop collecting the 5% development fee on domestically sold phones made by certain manufacturers in economic and investment zones, Enterprise reported on 5 November 2026, citing three government officials.

The relief would require new investment and increased capacity. Phones manufactured inside the ordinary customs perimeter are already exempt, the outlet says; this is not a general reduction for every handset.

The reviewed sources do not supply implementing rules or a verified effective date. The information remains attributed to Enterprise; its Arabic and English editions are not independent confirmations.
