President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi had sought a mandate to help defend the kingdom if it requested Egyptian assistance, amid Houthi attacks. The National Defence Council said on 18 October that it was ready to provide all possible forms of support.
AFP quotes lawmakers Ibrahim Kholeif and Maha Abdel Nasser as saying the postponement allows all members to speak. They said the form military support might take was not being discussed. Egyptian business publication Enterprise also reports that deliberations are to resume on 19 and 20 October.
The statements of solidarity and debate over authorisation do not establish that troops have been sent. The nature and timing of any assistance remain to be specified.
