Indonesia and Singapore agree joint task force on companies linked to fires

Indonesia and Singapore agreed in Jakarta on 27 October 2026 to create a joint task force on companies involved in forest and land fires. Foreign ministers Arrmanatha Nasir and Vivian Balakrishnan announced the agreement.

The mechanism is intended to connect information sharing, financial intelligence and cross-border evidence gathering. Asset recovery is envisaged where possible, according to statements reported by Antara and Metro TV.

Singapore pledged to use its legal and regulatory powers, including regarding companies registered there. The stated aim is to coordinate action so borders do not obstruct investigations.

The task force is an announced cooperation measure. Its creation does not amount to convictions of specific companies or evidence that fires or pollution have already been reduced.
