The FRMF places this fixture among matches ranking teams eliminated in the round of 16 of the competition’s top tier. African Football also reports the result.

Morocco had lost 1-0 to Paraguay in the last 16. The defeat by Mexico therefore came during the subsequent classification campaign, after Morocco had left the title race.
