Iraq announces plans for internet transit contracts to Europe on 9 November

Iraqi Communications Minister Mustafa Sanad announced on the evening of 30 October 2026 that Iraq plans to sign contracts with three countries in Doha on 9 November, routing their internet capacity through Iraq to Europe.

According to the ministry statement carried by the press, signing is planned on the sidelines of International Telecommunication Union proceedings. The ministry presents the initiative as a way to strengthen Iraq’s role in international data links.

The reports do not detail the partner countries, capacity, prices or service launch dates. The announcement concerns a future signing and therefore does not establish that new transit services are already operating.
